Based in the Midwest US, this catholic health system with 40,000 employees was looking for a solution to enable secure remote work, in the face of the Covid pandemic.
Initially, its enterprise security architecture team decided to enforce VPN requirements for remote workers routing all traffic via the on-premise Secure Web Gateway (SWG) appliances for visibility, URL filtering and threat protection. That approach choked the VPN firewall and productivity suffered due to poor user experience.
In its search for a better solution, the firm looked at several direct-to-cloud SWG solutions. The incumbent appliance vendor offered a cloud-hosted SWG, but was largely non-responsive to sales and support inquiries after a recent restructuring. The security team considered Bitglass and one other cloud-hosted SWG.
The Bitglass solution was easy to configure and deploy. No certificate management was required either on the end-points or in the cloud. And the performance was indistinguishable from a direct connection to the internet, much to the delight of end users.
The security team had visibility and control of remote work activity. Threats blocked. Data Leakage Protection. Full logging of all transactions. At the same time, users were happy and productive.
“In comparing the leading direct-to-cloud Secure Web Gateway solutions, Bitglass SmartEdge stood out for performance and ease of management.”
