Organizations across all industries are struggling to shift gears and acclimate to the changes brought forth by the recent events around the globe. Due to these worldwide developments, enterprises have had to shift from the familiar, primarily on-premises way of doing things to a highly remote, cloud-first workforce. As such, Bitglass, the Next-Gen Cloud Security Company, partnered with a leading cybersecurity community and surveyed IT professionals in order to gain insight as to how organizations are enabling and securing the remote workforce.
The survey results were compiled and evaluated in order to shape them into the 2020 Remote Workforce Report, which analyzes how organizations have adapted to implementing a cloud-first, remote workforce. Unfortunately, according to the report, 41% of surveyed organizations have not taken any steps to expand secure access across their systems. In addition, half of the surveyed organizations admitted that the biggest impediment they faced in enabling their employees to work remotely was the lack of proper equipment.
Surveyed IT professionals assert that malware remains the most ominous threat vector, with over 72% of respondents indicating it as their top concern. However, in addition to advanced threat protection (ATP) organizations seeking to reach an optimal level of security, must also enable tools such as single sign-on (SSO), data loss prevention (DLP) measures, and user and entity behavior analytics (UEBA) -- which are not deployed widely enough. Maintaining compliance with regulatory mandates, like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), has also been an issue for 63% of participants.
